Mr & Mrs Sommerflügel

On Tuesday 12 June Take Art and The Tacchi Morris in Taunton are co-presenting two performances of Mr & Mrs Sommerflügel, an Early Years international show by famed German company, Florschütz & Döhnert.

By Florschütz & Döhnert

Described as a poetic circus for children from two up, this beautiful show has proved a big hit with younger audiences all over the world, mixing fantasy and surrealism with imaginative visuals and storytelling.

It tells the story of the strange little world of animals that Mr & Mrs Sommerflügel are getting out of their magic suitcase and how it can be beautifully foolish to catch some things, like trying to hold the shadow of a butterfly in a handkerchief. With plenty of charming tricks the two actors make use of their menagerie to seduce each other.

“During the show the children - and especially the youngest ones - were roaring with laughter. A very beautiful discovery.” Michel Bélair

The Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre is a multipurpose space that provides arts activities for the whole community. We offer over 150 nights of live performance, and over 600 hours of community classes per year.

Completed in January 2000 through a £1 million donation from the Tacchi-Morris Trust, together with a £2.1 million grant from the Arts Council, the Tacchi-Morris holds state-of-the-art performance facilities. As well of being a centre of excellence for the performing arts, the Tacchi-Morris aims to inspire all the community to get involved in the arts, be it coming to watch one of our shows, or taking part yourself!

We believe involvement in the arts is not only a great way to have fun and breed creativity but also a means for exploring what it means to be human. Our work as part of Heathfield Community School and with the community (as well as with local primary and secondary schools) has shown us the value of the arts in developing skills and raising attainment, in challenging ideas and the world around us, in promoting international understanding, in improving health and well-being and in building confidence and self-esteem.

The Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre was developed through support from Kathleen Tacchi-Morris and continued support from The Tacchi-Morris Trust and Heathfield Community School. Core to our being is continuing the legacy of pacifism that echoed throughout every aspect of Kathleen Tacchi-Morris’s life.

As well as our busy programme of dance, theatre and music, we also run a whole range of community classes open to all the family.

We are open weekdays 10am – 5pm, and an hour before curtain-up on show nights. If you’d like to find out more about the Tacchi-Morris, or get involved yourself, why not pay us a visit or drop us a line? We look forward to meeting you!
