Take Art brings international shows to village communities

On 17 & 18 November Take Art will be showcasing two very different international shows across four Somerset venues.

From Spain
Theatro Che Y Moche will be visiting with their smash hit Edinburgh Fringe musical-comedy Oua Umplute (Stuffed Egg), bringing a delicious mix of theatre, music and mayhem to St Georges Hall, Hinton St George on the 17 November and the Davis Hall, West Camel on the 18 November. Oua Umplute (Stuffed Egg) is an entertaining and boisterous tale of an unforgettable crazy funeral party. The band of four Spanish gypsy musicians celebrate the life of their grandfather by playing the music he loved - using violins, guitars, saxophones and drums. The music ranges from funereal to love songs and through classical to dance tunes.
“A wonderful blend of actors and musicians… with gypsy music running in their veins.” The Scotsman.

From Canada
Canadian actress Susanna Hamnett will be performing her critically lauded one-woman Shakespearean retelling Nearly Lear, which has recently been booked to appear at the Sydney Opera House. Hamnett will be performing Nearly Lear at Wadham School, Crewkerne on 17 November and Churchinford Village Hall on the 18 November. Nearly Lear is an emotional roller-coaster ride that will enthral lovers of Shakespeare and excite new audiences. Susanna Hamnett tells the tragic story through the eyes of Lear’s closest and devoted companion – his own Fool. She uses exuberant storytelling, music and film, as well as Shakespeare’s rich poetic text, to take us firmly into the heart of the great King Lear play.

This show is accessible to all ages and there are free tickets available for all people under 26 years old. Apply to rose@takeart.org

Take Art’s Sarah Peterkin said, “It is really exciting to be able to offer international shows of such high quality to Somerset villages. Both Theatro Che Y Moche and Susan Hamnett will provide a vibrant and moving theatre experience to people who would otherwise never see anything of the like.”
