If you love theatre, dance, music, spoken word, great night’s out on your doorstep and the arts in Somerset, then you are probably going to want to hear about Take Art’s Spring Rural Touring Season.
Date: 09 Feb 2012
Categories: live
With 30 shows and 10 companies – this season promises to be a delicious, rich and tantalising array of high quality subsidised entertainment, designed to make a real impact on Somerset’s community life.
Sarah Peterkin the Director of Take Art Live said, “The main aim of Take Art Live is to support community life and education by bringing innovative and entertaining shows to people who would otherwise never get the chance to see them. Due to last year’s devastating local authority arts cuts, we have had to cut our 2012 programme by 50%. However I am confident that quality has been maintained and that rural communities will come out in force to support the scheme.”
So what can we expect this season?
In February look out for the five-piece gypsy jazz folk sensation Sheelanagig in Concert at Wootton Courtenay and Curry Mallet. Also the brilliant kids puppet show Circle of Tales at Mark near Bridgewater on 12 Feb and Hinton St George on 11 March. On Wed 22 Feb you can catch the provocative one-off dance piece Small Talk, also at Hinton St George.
On 1 March Sexeys School in Bruton are hosting an extraordinary piece of theatre called Luna, looking at issues of transgender and identity. For kids and parents who like to rock out – there will be two performances of the hugely entertaining Kid Carpet and the Noisy Animals, taking place in Castle Cary and Milborne Port. You can also catch The Stu Brown Sextet performing Twisted Toons: The Music of Raymond Scott at Chilthorne Domer (22 March) and Kilve (23 March).
One of the season’s main highlights is the Edinburgh award winning one man show Odyssey by Theatre Infinitum, which is taking place in Churchinford (8 March), Chaffcomb (9 March) and Chard (10 March). Ben Osbourne’s multi media, music and poetry show Jurassic Journey completes the spring season, featuring stunning film and photography of the Dorset coast, poetry by Matt Harvey and sculpture and puppetry by Lal Hitchcock. Jurassic Journey will take place in eight Somerset locations from 14 – 24 March.
