On Thursday 23, 24 and 25 September three villages in Somerset will be transformed into a Zimbabwean riot of love friendship and betrayal, as Two Gents Productions take their smash hit London stage show on a mini-county tour, courtesy of Take Art’s rural touring.
Two Gents of Verona is a stunning re-telling of the classic Shakespearean comedy and the first show in Take Art’s exciting new season of high quality rural entertainment. It is launching in Milborne Port Village Hall on Thursday 23 September, before sailing onto Ansford Community School in Castle Cary for Friday 24 September, completing the trilogy at Porlock Village Hall on Saturday 25 September.
Richard Barrett-Greening the promoter from Milborne Port said, “Promoting local based events enhances rural communities, providing culture, fun and entertainment that is accessible for all. We look forward to Two Gentlemen of Verona and it's lively perspective of Shakespeare, which promises to be an astounding show from start to finish.”
In the show two great friends vie for the love of the same woman, traversing the globe from Verona to Milan, via Harare and Bulawayo. Using minimal props, just a few items of clothing, a washing line and a suitcase, the two actors Denton Chikura and Tonderai Munyevu, play all 15 characters – from amorous suitors to sullen daughters, depressed servants and even a dog. Sarah Peterkin the Director of Take Art Live said, “I was completely amazed when I saw this fantastic show at Bath Theatre Royal last season. With great intuition and comic timing, the actors bring Shakespeare’s verse to life in a totally new style.”
“Denton Chikura is a wonderful clown, playing lovestruck Valentine with an eloquent minimalism of gesture. Tonderai Munyevu, meanwhile, has a delightful comic elasticity of expression and delivers an enchanting rendition of ‘Who Is Sylvia?’ Together they make a fine double act.” Time Out
