On the Road:  Rural Touring Workshop

Take Art Theatre

A one-day training, knowledge and skill share workshop for dance and theatre companies who want to know more about rural touring.

Take Art's Sarah Peterkin, Mark Helyar, Cath James and Ralph Lister will be running On the Road, along with support from local companies and volunteer promoters.

This training day is for companies, individuals and graduate artists who want to make performance work that is suitable for rural touring.  The areas we will cover include:-

  • Making performance work that is appropriate and relevant for rural touring
  • Marketing and publicity of this work to both rural touring scheme managers and to their audiences
  • Promotion of this work from the volunteer promoters' point of view
  • Working through the National Rural Touring Forum

Sarah, who is the current Director of Take Art Live, has 20 years experience running a Rural Touring scheme in Somerset and knows everything there is to know about working with volunteer promoters and local venues. Mark, who is Co-Director of Take Art Theatre, was in a previous life the Director of Proteus Theatre - a successful rural touring company. Cath is Co-Director of Take Art Dance and will be able to give a unique insight into rural touring, from the perspective of a dance company. Ralph is not only the Chief Executive of Take Art who initially programmed and run the scheme for eight years, but he is also Development Director for the umbrella body - the National Rural Touring Forum, www.nrtf.org.uk.

So, if you wish to explore the possibilities of rural touring and demystify this area of work, join us for this one-day training session On the Road at Stoke St Gregory village hall on Fri 9th March
