Do you love working with young children but feel unsure about using music in your practice?

Perhaps you've been told you're not musical, lack confidence when leading songs and musical activities, or would like more ideas for supporting children's learning through music.

This friendly and highly practical six-session online course is designed especially for you.

Led by experienced early childhood music practitioners Rosie Walton, Kate Comberti and Jane Parker, the course will help you discover the joy, value and potential of music in early years provision while developing your skills, knowledge and confidence. 

No previous musical training is needed. If you don't consider yourself musical,you are particularly welcome.

Each session is practical, interactive and designed to help you learn through doing.

Together we will explore:

  • Singing games and rhymes
  • Musical play and child-led exploration
  • Supporting babies' and young children's musical development
  • The role of the playful adult
  • Sound-making instruments and everyday objects
  • Technology that can support singing and musical engagement
  • The effective use of  recorded music
  • Music as part of high-quality EYFS provision 

Throughout the course, you will also be signposted to useful resources to support your continued professional development and practice.

Live Online Delivery

This course is delivered live via Zoom and is designed to be interactive.

We strongly encourage participants to attend each session live to gain the greatest benefit from the course. If unavoidable circumstances prevent attendance, recordings of each session will be made available for a limited period to support catch-up and review.

Participants will also receive presentation handouts for future reference.

Course Fees and Eligibility

Thanks to funding from Octagon Music Hub, this course is available at a heavily subsidised rate.

Course fee: £18 for all six sessions
(That's just £3 per 90-minute session.) 

This funded opportunity is available only to those either working in Early Years provision or living within Somerset and/or Dorset. Proof of eligibility and geographic location will be required when booking.

Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Booking deadline: Midnight Wednesday 13 January 2027. Late bookings cannot be accepted.  Joining instructions will be sent out by the end of Friday 15 January 2027 at the latest.

Meet the Trainers

Rosie Walton, Kate Comberti and Jane Parker are experienced early childhood music practitioners, educators, mentors and course leaders.

Together they bring a wealth of knowledge, practical expertise and current sector experience, ensuring that participants leave feeling informed, inspired and confident in their use of music with young children.
