Our music work is predominantly focused on activity with young people excluded from school attending Pupil Referral Units and also 16-25 NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
This participatory music work is delivered in partnership with Actiontrack Performance Company at their Taunton based recording studio and peripatetically offsite around the county.
My Tunes - this project prioritises work with under 16 year olds in the Somerset West & Taunton, Sedgemoor and South Somerset Partnerships (PRU) active in those areas.
Outthere – working mainly with NEETs aged 16-25 across Somerset and occasionally out of county. Referrals to this programme come from over 40 agencies including social services, children in care, FE student support, Family Intervention Services, Youth Offending Team etc.
Most sessions are delivered as one to one or small group programmes on the basis of co-creating new music with the participants. The emphasis is on both music making and also building confidence and resilience.
These projects are currently financially supported by Youth Music, Sound Foundation Somerset, NYMAZ and the Partnership Colleges.
In a new development, we have recently linked up with Black Acre Records in Bristol to offer a 6 month funded opportunity for a young Somerset based professional musician. It is intended to further the ambitions of a young professional wishing to make a career in the music industry.
My Tunes is a long running project from Take Art and Actiontrack that utilises the levelling power of music, working with some of the most isolated and disadvantaged young people in the county. Sep 2012 - present day
