In this session we will explore how approaches to musical behaviour and creative play can support Language & Communication in early years provision. Kate and Jane will offer you a toolkit of ideas to help you engage, support and build on everyone’s innate musicality to promote Language & Communication.
In this session we will:
Offer practical ideas for you to use
Share some of the theories that explain how being musical supports Language and Communication development
Learn how to incorporate a range of typical early years resources and children’s books as a starting point for music making, songwriting and the freedom to imagine, perform and improvise
How to use music to have even more fun in your setting, to learn about your children and enable children’s voice
This training is for anyone interested in early years music and will support the practice of:

About Kate Kate Comberti is a dedicated music educator and researcher, known for her expertise in young children's musical behaviour. Her work seeks to deepen our understanding of how young children engage with music by fostering their creative and communicative abilities. Kate serves as a mentor and tutor on the Certificate for Music Educators: Early Childhood programme based at the Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC) and accredited by Trinity College London. She also holds the position of Assistant Tutor for the MA in Education (Early Childhood Music) accredited by Birmingham City University and also based at CREC. Beyond her academic commitments, Kate is actively involved in project work with Creative Futures,as part of the Sound Communities initiative,championing cross arts approaches to music education.
About Jane Jane Parker comes with a wealth of specialist Early Years music experience and knowledge,as an educator and a researcher practitioner with very young children. Having completed an MA in Early Childhood Music Education, Jane possesses both a deep theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of current issues in the Early Years music sector. As well as Take Art’s Early Years Music and Education Lead, Jane is the course Co-Director on the Certificate for Music Educators (CME): Early Childhood course based at CREC (Centre for Research in Early Childhood) in Birmingham.
