New Friends & New Project On The Horizon

30 September 2025

Meet our Trainees

Last time we announced that two Trainee Early Years Creative Practitioners were joining our Little People Big Ideas early years project team – I am delighted to introduce you to:

Victoria Deelchand-Bee

Jasmine Smail

Victoria is truly invested in the potential of creativity to support children’s learning and development.  She holds a belief in the importance of curiosity, expression and open-ended exploration. In addition to her current part-time reception class teaching role Victoria founded Awe and Wonder, a small charity that offers free creative play sessions for families in the Crewkerne area.

Jasmine is a multidisciplinary artist with a very playful approach to her practice. Following her Fine Art degree she has explored childhood, nostalgia and memory through sculpture and drawing, with the tactile process of making holding high importance. Working in a community nursery in Bristol, running afterschool art clubs, stewarding in galleries and co-founding artist studios which hosts artists and workshops all adds to the richness of the experience she holds. www.jasminesmail.co.uk

We hope that both Jasmine and Victoria gain a huge amount through their hands-on training time with us and the Little People Big Ideas project; they bring such an array of experience, knowledge and passion for early years creativity and we are so looking forward to working with them throughout the coming year.

Here is the Little People Big Ideas Creative Team getting to know each other – in a barn and on a tractor, of course, we are in deepest rural Somerset after all!

Exciting New Project – Sing Our Story

We are delighted to announce a new partnership project with Groundswell Arts (London).

Sing Our Story (SOS) supports children, parents and carers, key workers and musicians working together to write a unique lullaby or special song, centred on the child’s likes, dislikes, interests, preoccupations, memories and routines. The programme fosters an ethos of co-creation and collaboration with parents and carers and has a proven track record of supporting children’s wellbeing, identity, language, and music development. Building and strengthen bonds with both the families and the settings involved.

Take Art is partnering with Groundswell Arts to pilot two SOS projects in the rural southwest. We are currently recruiting musician/songwriters for this project, details can be found here. The projects will take place between January – March 2026.

One project, for children under 6 years old, is funded by Youth Music and the other, for care experienced children and young people is funded by the Rayne Foundation.
