Passionate About Music

27 November 2025

Take Art has a long history of supporting music in early childhood.  From projects with children and staff in early years settings to bespoke music training delivered at conferences, places of education and online we advocate for the potential for music to enrich lives and support wellbeing and development.

Early Years Music CPD Training

Our ongoing partnership with the Octagon Music Hub (the music hub for Somerset and Dorset) enables us to continue and develop a rich training programme to increase confidence and skills for those working with the youngest in our society.

One of our most popular training courses is open for booking right now. We have been running this course for 5 years now and keep it refreshed and up to date by reviewing it every time it is offered.  Some spaces still available, but going fast. Please do book before Christmas to be sure of a place. Here are the details:

Building Confidence using Music in Early Years Provision - Music training designed for Early Years practitioners

7.30 pm – 9.00 pm Mondays on 26 January | 2 February | 9 February | 2-week break | 2 March | 9 March | 16 March 2026 via Zoom

£18.00 for full course. Funding from the Octagon Music Hub (Somerset & Dorset) enables us to offer this reduced rate to you all.

A practical and interactive six-session online course for early years practitioners who want to connect to the joy of early years music whilst improving their skills, knowledge and confidence.

This accessible course welcomes anyone who wants to be more confident when including music in early years provision and to gain an understanding of the potential of music when working with young children. You do not need to have any previous musical training; those who do not consider themselves to be ‘musical’ are very welcome.

"Thank you so SO much. It has really inspired me to connect with children musically. I have learnt so much over the 6 sessions and have loved the practical songs, opportunities to practise together and understanding the purpose/why along with information, videos/real life examples. I feel I have left with a wealth of resources to use and share with staff in my setting. Thank you again, you are amazing!"

Music Projects

Sing Our Story (SOS) in partnership with Groundswell Arts.

Following a very competitive recruitment we are delighted to announce that musicians/songwriters Roger Luxton (Cornwall) and Sadie Fleming (Somerset/Bristol) have joined us to deliver this programme in Spring 2026.

Together with children, parents and carers and key workers they will write a special song centred on a child’s likes, dislikes, interests, memories.  This song will then be recorded and gifted to the child to keep.

Roger will work in Cornwall with care experienced children (funded by Rayne Foundation) and Sadie in Somerset with 4-5 year olds (funded by Youth Music).

Exploring Possibilities with 2 – 4 year olds in Little People Big Ideas

In our last newsletter we introduced you to Jasmine and Victoria, our Little People Big Ideas trainees.  They are now very much part of our creative team visiting settings in Somerset on a weekly basic to explore ideas, play creatively and to investigate what 2 – 4 year olds can tell us about their creative world.  So, this Youth Music Energiser Fund project is in full swing with strong partnerships and lots of shared learning.

Please do get in touch if you would like more information on any of our news.
