Sing Our Story

A songwriting project in partnership with Groundswell Arts. Sing Our Story is designed to support the wellbeing and confidence of children through involving their whole family in a unique creative process.

We are delighted to be partnering Groundswell Arts (London) to bring this programme to the rural South-West of England.

Sing Our Story is a unique creative programme founded by Groundswell Arts that supports children’s wellbeing through personalised songwriting. The programme works with children and their families to co-write and create personalised songs. These songs are then gifted to the children via a music file so they can carry them forward through their lives.

Songwriter Sadie Fleming completed the first Take Art programme, writing songs with 11 early years children and their families in mid-Somerset.   Parents and carers worked with Sadie through a three-stage process to co-write and record their special songs based on each child’s unique story, interests and identity.

“Without doubt one of the most special, deeply meaningful experiences that I have shared with C, a truly unique experience that I will treasure always. Sadie is not only incredibly talented but full of warmth, heart and soul. The process of steadily sharing and hearing the process was amazing.”  - Parent
“Thank you for allowing us to take part in this wonderful project. It has definitely strengthened our relationships with our parents and allowed us to deepen our relationships with the children.  I can’t wait to hear the rest of the songs and share them with the rest of the children. I feel T’s dinosaur song will become a firm favourite!” - Nursery Manager

The next programme will take place in North Cornwall where musician Roger Luxton will be working with care experienced children and their families.

Funding for these two programmes comes from Youth Music and Rayne Foundation.
