Arts as Activism

Diversity Forum for the Performing Arts in Somerset

How can we use the arts to influence the political agenda? Think XR, think Banksy, think Led by Donkeys. Pete 'the temp' Bearder presents and Take Art hosts, asking the question how we as a region can make an impact on the issues that matter?

Spoken word poet, XR activist and author Pete ‘the Temp’ Bearder will look at how the arts can be used to create a conversation between cultures and influence politics specifically in relation to the climate crisis and Brexit.

We will also hear from Tracey West, author, broadcaster, performance poet and CEO of environmental charity, The Word Forest Organisation. Find out how to write your way out of the darkness and turn a creative process into a doorway to tell global stories.

We ask the Somerset performing arts community to bring their ideas for action on to tell us how they are going to shape the narrative in Somerset towards real positive change.

The Diversity Forum will be followed by the Rainbow Fish Speak Easy (see next page), a social prescribing and spoken word poetry project, which has helped improve the mental health of countless Yeovil residents. Attendees are invited to stay on and will be able to purchase food and refreshments from The Hub cafe.
