‘Life to me has been a great adventure’

The Hard Way is a one-woman show that tells the story of Hannah Mitchell; self-taught, selfmade woman, campaigner, speaker, writer, suffragette, councillor and magistrate. At just 14, Hannah escapes domestic drudgery in a remote hilltop farm in the Derbyshire Peak District, exchanging one exploitative situation for another, until ending up in Manchester city magistrate. In 1906 she finds herself face to face with Winston Churchill and then spends time in Strangeways, before forging on to achieve her true destiny.

Combining storytelling and song, acclaimed musician and composer Louise Jordan brings to life this fascinating tale that celebrates one woman’s determination to take power in the face of insurmountable barriers.
