Coinciding with the Rugby World Cup 2015, Live Wire Theatre presents Hands Up For Jonny Wilkinson's Right Boot, touring to two Take Art venues shortly and a third in October.
This play sees three rugby fans meet in a pub in Twickenham before a crucial England match. With two hours to kickoff they pass the time arguing about the greatest moments and players in rugby’s history. A mysterious stranger tells the story of Frederick Stanley Jackson – a Cornish tin miner who had been a member of the first ever British Lions tour to New Zealand in 1908. In this fast paced comedy, incorporating song, physical theatre and a re-enactment of the All-Blacks’ legendary Haka, the four actors bring some of rugby’s greatest players to life, including Jonny Wilkinson dropping that famous World Cup winning goal with his right boot. It also looks at how rugby was dominated in its early years by British Public Schools and excluded players from the working class or ethnic minorities. Full of dramatic twists and turns, this is a play to delight audiences of all ages.
Catch it at Charlton Horethorne Village Hall on Sunday or West Coker Commemoration Hall on Tuesday (also at North Cadbury on 23 October). For full details please click here.
