Rainbow Fish Speak Easy

For the broken and the brilliant (and all their friends)

Rainbow Fish Speak Easy is a bi-monthly spoken word poetry night in Yeovil, with open mic slots available for anyone with an original poem to share. This month's headliner is Pete the Temp.

The event, hosted by the 2019 BBC Somerset poet in residence for National Poetry Day, Liv Torc, is fun, funny, tender and tremendous; with tips for successfully navigating the human condition in all its luminous, ludicrous and lunatic dimensions.

The show comes out of the Take Art's 'performance poetry on prescription Word/Play project, which helps adults with mental health challenges find new ways to talk about their lives. Along with an open mic and a short performance from the Somerset Word/Play group, each Rainbow Fish Speak Easy features an exciting poetry headliner.

In September we will be running the Rainbow Fish Speak Easy on the back of our Diversity forum on Arts as Activism, with special guest poet, writer and environmentalist Pete the Temp, whose work has been featured on BBC Radio 4, the World Service and Newsnight. A former National Poetry Slam Champion, Pete is author of the ground-breaking new book Stage Invasion, charting the unwritten history and revival of the spoken word art form.

We welcome poets of all stages, those new to writing and performing, those who have traveled to be part of the night and those with lots of experience.

Rainbow Fish Speak Easy is a genuinely entertaining and heart warming event and we welcome and encourage audience members to come and support the poets and enjoy the atmosphere. You will also get to see a national spoken word star.

A cafe serving hot and cold drinks and cakes, light meals and snacks is located at the venue.
