Connect With Us This Summer

21 July 2022

We hope this finds you well and enjoying the summer!

As a theatre team, much of our time is currently focusing on programming and supporting Cultivate events, which you can read about by clicking on its newsletter link. We’re delighted to be working with several Somerset theatre-makers on this project, particularly as it’s providing new opportunities for bringing local arts, food and communities together.

We’re planning a ‘live’ network get together for theatre-makers across Somerset this autumn, so stay tuned, more information is coming soon!

Nothing beats live get togethers! (Image from BARNfest)

Can't wait to mingle?

You might be glad to hear we're hosting a lunchtime zoom catch-up in August. This will be an informal opportunity to update each other on what we’re up to, share ideas, ask advice or just say ‘hello!’

We know that August is a busy month for some people, and quiet for others, but hopefully you might be able to join us at 1pm on Tuesday 16 August 2022. There’s no need to let us know you’re coming, just click on this link. Meeting ID: 880 6860 7276  Passcode: 368182

Hope to see you there!

BARNfest In Pictures

We’ve had a few requests for the images taken at BARNfest in March, so we’ve made a good selection available online, which you can find through this link.

If you performed at BARNfest, you’re welcome to use these images, as appropriate, for your own promotional purposes.  The only thing we ask if you credit the photographer: Len Copland.

News, Information and Requests

We’re occasionally asked for advice about company governance - e.g. the most appropriate legal structure for a theatre company (incorporation as a CIC, company limited by guarantee etc.) - or the best kind of bank accounts (like those that don’t charge and/or have minimal charges).

While we try to answer questions as best we can, we thought it might be useful to ask if anyone is willing to share their experiences to help others making similar decisions about:

• What governance structure, bank account etc. works for you?
• Do you have any tips or advice you’re able to share?

If you’re able to help, please email theatre@takeart.org, and we can pass your information on to others when they contact us in addition to the support we offer.

Opportunities

As we mentioned in the previous newsletter, we can occasionally promote other events and opportunities. So, if you have something that you’d like to be included on the next mail-out, please fill in this link with full details by 20 September.

Angel Exit is looking for a technical stage manager for its forthcoming summer tour of toooB and some Autumn dates. They need someone with knowledge of how to set up lights who can drive, ideally Somerset-based. If you are interested, or know anyone else who might be, please follow this link.

Valley Arts is programming its November Fringe Festival, and then into the winter and early 2023. The team are looking for new and innovative work that will appeal to rural audiences south of Bristol, and can be performed in village halls with minimum tech. They are particularly interested in adult theatre and family shows. Please contact Amy Clipson for further details via amy.clipson@valleyartscentre.co.uk.

The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre is recruiting for a Full time Programme and Marketing Officer.  For full details please click here

In the meantime, we wish you a very happy summer and look forward to seeing you at the zoom meeting on 16 August if you’re able to join us.

Best wishes,
