Micro Theatre Festival: what a buzz

08 October 2015

On Sunday 27 September there was a great buzz all day long at Red Brick Building Glastonbury as it played host venue to the first Micro Theatre Festivals for Somerset.  The event was put together by Red Sky Theatre with collaboration from Take Art Theatre.  Five companies presented short 20 mins shows throughout the day both in spaces indoors and in the garden at Red Brick Building.

Samsa Theatre kicked off the festival with an exciting new production of Metamorphosis, presented by four young women and one young man from Huish Academy. Whilst upstairs in the studio, Somerset Youth Dance Company performed two pieces from their repertoire.  Award-winning actor and storyteller, Fra Gunn, presented 3 short stories to a mixed audience of adults and children in the gorgeous Red Brick garden, whilst Kiki Lovechild had a full house to delight with his magical mime, illusion and physical comedy show.  The line up was completed by wonderful Spanish theatre company, Little Soldier, presenting Expect Fireworks, a physical comedy show about changing the world, all in 20 mins!

These five companies repeated their shows throughout the day to a wide range of happy audience members of all ages.  It was brilliant to see the Red Brick Building alive with theatre at this little festival which we are very much hoping will be the first of many.  Well done Red Sky for making this happen.
