Cultivating Diverse Connections

We have been connecting with a diverse range of audiences from all over the world. Our team had an exciting couple of weeks developing relationships through our Cultivate Connects project, and exploring the opportunities for activity in South Somerset.

Don’t Close Your Eyes

We were delighted to take some of The Nightingale Ukrainian group over to Wedmore to see the community show ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’. The show was produced by professional theatre makers Bohdana and Nadiia, to mark the anniversary of the Ukrainian war. It was a deeply moving showcase of traditional Ukrainian songs, imagery, film and artefacts. Huge congratulations to all involved.

It was wonderful to connect some of the Ukrainian Chard community with other Ukrainians living in Wedmore, especially on such a poignant and important day. The show and community managed to raise over £6000 for relief efforts in Ukraine – an amazing achievement.

Sewing Seeds Of Gladness Stitching Project

We are delighted to be supporting the Sewing Seeds of Gladness stitching project for South Petherton parish. The core community stitching team is buzzing with ideas and creativity. Little hessian bags of gladness have been produced to distribute into the community and the marketing signed off!

We can’t wait to start spreading gladness and involving an intergenerational pool of people. The map will reflect imagery in and around the parish of South Petherton and illustrations and words important to the community. It’s so wonderful to see the stitching already produced by the first group of stitchers and how their work will make the map a community invested piece to enjoy for years to come.

After Easter there will be a launch at South Petherton Library for people from South Petherton parish to find out more about how they can get involved. If you live in South Petherton do come along! Details below:

Chard Together

The first Chard Together event was held on Saturday, 11 March. The day was a celebration of diversity, culture, food and the performing arts. Run by Somerset Diverse Communities it connected people from all over the world and saw over 700 people through the door.

A great achievement for the first one! Cultivate were delighted to add live theatre from Tor Theatre as part of the day’s agenda along with a clever, sensitive, and brilliant poem about the event, performed by David Reakes. Click here to have a listen!

Culturally Chard Spring Festival

We are continuing to work in collaboration with Somerset Art Works and Chard Town Council on Culturally Chard’s Spring Festival.

The Festival runs from 27th – 29th April and will be held at The Guildhall in Chard. The event will be a creative celebration for the community.
