Here Comes Summer!

23 May 2023

What do you call someone who likes to add numbers when the weather is warm?

A summer! :)

Let’s hope we can add to everyone’s enjoyment over the next few months with the various theatre activities on the horizon, some of which you can read about below.

David Glass: The Lost Child Project

Earlier in May, a group of sixteen practitioners with a range of backgrounds and experiences shared a two-day training programme led by David Glass. The workshops focused on The Lost Child methodology which aims to use theatre and creative participation to give a voice marginalised and vulnerable children and young people.

The Lost Child project has been delivered with significant impact in several countries around the world since 1997. We are now exploring the potential for a project in Somerset.  The training, delivered in collaboration with Somerset Youth Theatre and The Octagon Theatre, is the next step towards making this happen.

All Hands Call Out!

The Nornen Project is producing All Hands!, a new show about The Nornen, the shipwreck off Berrow Beach in Somerset.

With performances taking place in August, the project has a call out for people to join the production as either a member of the cast or as a backstage team volunteer.

The BARN initiative supported the research and development stage of this exciting community theatre project and we’re delighted to see it’s now on the next stage of its journey. For more information, please see the attached callout here or email nornencommunity@gmail.com

Co-Creation Course for Artists

Just in... Niki McCretton, Artistic Director of Stuff and Nonsense, is running this course at Lighthouse, Poole, 6th to 8th July, 2023.  For more information and booking, please click here.

In other news, the current Word/Play programme for people with learning disabilities and autism, in partnership with The Hub in Yeovil, continues to go well. Supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, the workshops will culminate in a short film being produced which we hope to share in the next newsletter.

Much of the theatre team’s energy this summer is being directed towards the Cultivate programme, which you can read about in the Cultivate newsletter.

As ever, if, as a Somerset-based theatre-maker you would like some advice, guidance or support, you can contact Mark, Katy or Ruth via theatre@takeart.org and we’ll do our best to help.

Next Newsletter

As you’ve seen above, we can occasionally promote other events and opportunities. So, if you have something that you’d like to be included in the next mail-out, please fill in this link with full details by 21 July 2023.

All good wishes,

Mark, Katy and Ruth
