Inspired by the success of our What Change? project last year, several people in Burnham-on-Sea have set up BOS Community Theatre Group to bring the theatre and drama groups in the area closer together. They are currently working with Show of Strength Theatre Company to produce Love Your Town – Trading Local.
It started on Saturday 23 January with the first in a series of writing workshops, and had a fantastic turn out of 22 participants. Run by director Sheila Hannon, these workshops are to create scripts for performance in and around shop premises on Sat 16 April. This is a fantastic outcome of What Change? and a strong testament to the commitment and creativity of people in Burnham.
The next workshops will be held on 2 February, 10am-12 noon at Crafty Teacup cafe in Victoria Street; on 11 February, 2-4pm at The Round Tower Guesthouse on The Esplanade, and on 17 February at the Royal Clarence from 7-9pm.
The organisers are seeking first time and experienced writers to create five-minute scripts specifically for, and about, the town. Twelve will be selected for professional production and audiences, residents, shoppers and visitors will see the results on Saturday 16 April.
The project is being organised in association with Burnham Community Theatre Group, and Take Art's Theatre team are pleased to be supporting this project alongside Burnham-On-Sea & Highbridge Town Council, Sedgemoor District Council and Co-op Funeral Care. An additional project is running alongside within schools and residential homes, encouraging young people to write short stories as part of a competition. The stories will hopefully be shared amongst the residential homes later in the year who may not be able to access the event but would want to be involved.
Burnham-On-Sea Community Theatre Group was set up in 2015 with the aim of making the professional theatre experience available to all, to work with everyone in the local community.
