"I have not seen him be that committed to any other project, the work in these sessions has helped nurture and develop learning in other subjects besides music"

Following an initial My Tunes project culminating in 2014, Take Art has secured funding for its follow-up, My Tunes 2.

Thanks to this fundingMy Tunes 2 will continue the legacy of recently completed music project My Tunes, building on relationships with Actiontrack and young people in four Somerset Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), working together to make and record music in a range of styles from May 2014 to May 2016.

Take Art and Actiontrack Performance Company will be working with the four area schools in Taunton Deane, Sedgemoor, South Somerset and Mendip to make music with young people who have been excluded from mainstream schools over the next two years. A variety of music styles including, rap, rock, beatbox, grime, dubstep and soul will be offered to 125 young people in taster sessions, then 75 in more in-depth follow up sessions, as well as recording opportunities at the Actiontrack recording studio in Taunton.

My Tunes 2 will also be expanded to include training for the Targeted Youth Support team who work with vulnerable 15 to 19 year olds. This is an exciting development and contributes to our ambition to develop a countywide strategy for working through music with vulnerable children and young people. As part of this we are working with the Somerset Music Education Hub – Sound Foundation Somerset.
