On The Road Again

26 January 2023

Our team of creative early year artists and musicians are back on the road visiting settings to support children and staff through music, dance, theatre, visual art and storytelling.

They offer playful activities that bring learning opportunities along with a good deal of fun and laughter. As well as making the visit a happy experience for everyone taking part, there is the serious intention of supporting the development of each child and enhancing the range of skills held by the amazing practitioners who work with the children on a daily basis.

Activities this term are taking place in Stogursey, Yeovil and Ilminster in Somerset and further afield in Plymouth, Dartington, Derby and Ashford in Surrey.

Taking your very young children to the Theatre

There are many excellent theatre companies who produce shows that are designed specifically for an audience of children aged 5 and under. The content is prepared especially for this age group and the performers expect and embrace children being children in the audience.

Our Making & Believing project is making some of these special shows available to families, childcare settings and educational establishments. We are delighted to announce that dance/movement artist Takeshi Matsumoto is working with us and performing his immersive show Club Origami this Spring in Theatres and early years settings!

You can see it here:

  • 15, 16 & 17 February at The egg, Theatre Royal, Bath
  • 18 March at Derby Theatre, Derby
  • 26 March at The Princess Theatre, Burnham-on-Sea

Dive into the magical world of Club Origami, an immersive and interactive dance show inviting family audiences to create, imagine and explore whole new ways of thinking, playing and moving.  Dance, fashion and live music meet the magic of origami to sweep us up on a spirited and inspiring adventure in a land made purely of paper and play.

SoundWaves Network SW upcoming training

Building confidence in using music in EYFS: a practical and interactive online Zoom course is for anyone who wants to improve their skills and knowledge in early years music.

Tues 18 April 2023 to Tues 23 May 2023: 6 Tuesday evenings 7.30pm - 9pm

The popular course is once again led by Jane Parker and is part of Take Art’s Early Childhood music programme SoundWaves Network SW, funded by Youth Music. This 6-session evening course will provide an opportunity to develop your skills and confidence in delivering simple singing games, rhymes and instrumental work for 0 to 5s.

We will also look at ways of encouraging musical play, supporting it through adult interactions with children and ways settings can celebrate children's musical achievements.
