Summer Connections

31 May 2024

How many producers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Sorry, a new lamp isn’t in the budget.

Welcome to the June Newsletter! As ever, do also check out the Cultivate newsletter, a significant part of Take Art Theatre’s programme, as it includes plans for events this summer.

Theatre & Dance Networking Event

We’re thinking it’s time for another theatre-makers networking meeting, which we’re going to combine with dancers as well (and including, circus, spoken word, performance poetry.

The event will provide an informal opportunity for us to get together and share news, plans, collaborative possibilities, training and ideas.

We know that people have found previous similar events really useful: new ideas are often hatched, potential partnerships discovered, and training needs identified. And of course, the event will include the statutory tea, cake, biscuits and friendly faces!

When: Tuesday 25th June 2024

Where: The Ridgway Hall, Staceys Court, Bow Street, Langport, TA10 9PQ

Time: We’re going to start with a BYO lunch from 12.30. If the weather is good, we may go out onto Cocklemoor which is right next to the hall. The hall has kitchen facilities that we can use. The ‘main’ networking event will be 1.30pm until 3.30pm. These events tend to be pretty informal, so please feel free to arrive and leave when it's best for you.

Parking: There’s a small, free car park next to the Hall. The larger, free car park is just a bit further along Bow Street.

Car sharing: if you would like to come but don’t have transport, please let us know and we’ll try and put you in touch with someone coming by car. Likewise, if you can offer a lift to someone else, please let us know (and the direction you’ll be coming from).

Access: If you have any additional access needs, please let us know and we will do our best to help.

RSVP: Please email theatre@takeart.org to let us know if you would like to join us so we know how much cake to buy!

WuWu (Wake up, Warm up)

We’re pleased to hear from Tamsin that WuWu has now started. She writes:

"Angel Exit Theatre invites professional actors and directors based in Dorset and Somerset to come together for brief weekly sessions on zoom, first thing on a Monday morning. We do a simple vocal and physical warm up together. Just 30 minutes, all free, no commitment. We usually run the sessions but we will ask for other artists to take up the baton and run sessions too. A chance to connect, warm up the physical and vocal muscles and keep ourselves ready to work, a simple continuous training.

After the 30 mins, we have 10 mins to check in, share opportunities, promote work etc until the Zoom runs out. The sessions run from 9.15am every Monday morning with Zoom links sent out via a WhatsApp group."

Anyone who is interested to find out more or be added to the list please contact tamsin@angelexit.co.uk.

Thanks to Activate and Take Art for support in setting up these sessions.

Word/Play

We’re delighted to announce that we will be running a new Word/Play programme of activity, in partnership with ARK at Egwood, starting later this summer. As a development from previous projects, Word/Play will run over a twelve-month period and include other activity as well as performance poetry workshops. It is supported by the National Lottery Community Fund

Called Word/Play: Sow and Grow, it is designed for people who are socially isolated, experiencing trauma or mental ill health and have lost a sense of independence and agency. Through a range of creative activity, they will be given the freedom and encouragement to tell their stories in a safe, fun and nature-friendly environment.

Next Newsletter

As you’ve seen above, we can occasionally promote other events and opportunities. So, if you have something that you’d like to be included in the next mail-out (which will cover August and September 24) please fill in this link with full details by 19 July 2024.

All good wishes,

Mark and Ruth
