Now in its 15th year, Spring Forward Dance Festival is back with an unrivaled offering to the entire Somerset and South West dance community, featuring groups of all ages and backgrounds, showcasing their work on a professional stage. Last year saw the introduction of community groups, older dancers and digital content to the programme and this year and we are looking forward to even greater diversity of dancers and choreography.
As ever all three platforms will feature exciting dancers and dance groups from across Somerset and beyond but in a twist from the usual programme, the McMillan Theatre platform will be hosting the South West regional U.Dance platform, which will feature up to 14 aspiring groups, all hoping to be selected to go to the national U.Dance Celebration in Glasgow on the 12-19 July. This event is being run by Take Art in partnership with Pavilion Dance South West.
U.Dance National Youth Dance Festival has been taking place since 2005, involving thousands of young people from across the UK. The regional platform is a celebration of all styles of youth dance from across the South West for ages 11-19yrs (*Disabled dancers up to the age of 25 are eligible to apply). It is an opportunity for youth dancers to inspire and be inspired, connect and perform. Along with the evening showcase, U-Dance will also be offering a day of workshops and activity open to all participants.
Bracketing the U.Dance platform, the two Spring Forward showcases at the Tacchi Morris Art Centre and Octagon Theatre, will continue to offer even more opportunities for dancers and dance audiences, all making vital and engaging work they want to share with their peers and local audiences.
