Take Art would like to encourage dance groups from all over Somerset and the South West to apply to a bigger, bolder and more inclusive Spring Forward, taking place over three nights in March 2019.
Dance Platform Dates
Thursday 7 March - DIGITAL AND DANCE - The McMillan Theatre, Bridgwater
Friday 15 March - COMMUNITY DANCE - Tacchi Morris Arts Centre, Taunton
Wednesday 20 March - YOUTH DANCE - Octagon Theatre, Yeovil
This year will be the 15th outing of the hugely popular Spring Forward Dance Festival, which for the first time ever is opening its arms to the entire Somerset dance community, welcoming groups of all ages and backgrounds to apply for a chance to showcase their work.
Spring Forward has traditionally been a platform for young people and this years festival will still maintain its strong youth dance core, offering an amazing opportunity for hundreds of young dancers to work together to create new pieces to perform on a professional stage. All three platform events will still be open to young dancers, with the last event at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil dedicated solely to youth dance and featuring over twenty groups and performances.
This year however we want Spring Forward to offer even more opportunities for dance within the county, with the platform at the Tacchi Morris Art Centre showcasing community dance groups of all ages and from all backgrounds, who are making exciting and vital work that needs and deserves a professional platform.
The platform at The McMillan Theatre in Bridgwater will focus on dance and digital innovation and will feature dance films/digital, alongside live performance from groups of all ages.
Alison Lord, Dance Director at Take Art, said “Spring Forward will always have youth dance at its heart but this year we wanted to make the festival more inclusive, with a greater focus on community and digital innovation. There is so much we can learn from each other as dancers and opening up Spring Forward to include all ages of dancers and community groups can only help enrich the dance community. We also want to showcase digital innovation because it creates even greater opportunity to build dance audiences and share the amazing dance work happening within Somerset.”
