Our Creative Europe project taking Rural Touring across Europe is coming to the end

Earlier in October we completed Journey Exchange, an intergenerational, international project that brought together local people from Burnham and Highbridge, Somerset theatre-makers and artists from Hungary, Germany and Rumania. We hosted our European colleagues as part of the RIOTE3 project that we’re a partner in.

The SPARSE Network is an exciting development that achieves one of the Creative Europe funded SPARSE aims which is to create a European Rural Touring Network.

SPARSE is an EU project that aims to give people from rural communities access to arts by taking performances by professionals into rural areas to rural audiences in local community venues. The results of the 1st tour audience survey seem very positive and encouraging. The methodology consisted of paper survey of the audience members. The same questions were asked in each country.

The contribution that culture can make in regeneration activities, as demonstrated by numerous city ‘capitals of culture’ examples, can be applied in its own way to rural areas. Find out how in our webinar that took place on 3 February 2021 as we discuss the arts and festivals in this context.

Perform Europe will support experiments to make touring of performing arts works in Creative Europe countries more sustainable and inclusive. The ultimate goal of Perform Europe is to design a future support scheme for cross-border touring and digital distribution of the performing arts.
