SYDC's £1000 fundraising challenge

12 June 2014

SYDC is a group of gifted & talented young dancers aged 13-21 from throughout Somerset, who share the passion and enthusiasm to perform and dance together. The group is coordinated by Take Art.

In March SYDC was selected for their excellent performance at the U.DANCE South West regional platform, where 15 youth dance groups showcased their work to each other, a public audience and a professional selection panel. The panel selected SYDC as one of two groups from the South West to perform at Youth Dance England’s national platform, U.DANCE 2014, in Nottingham this June. SYDC and Cornish group 4 Funx Sake will join some twenty selected youth groups from across the UK, as well as National Dance Companies from England, Scotland and Wales.

SYDC was chosen for their excellent performance of 'Falling to Take Flight' choreographed for them by Steven Martin from Retina dance company. Click here to see a video with clips of their performance and hear what this opportunity means to some of the members.

14 dancers aged between 15-19 years old from SYDC are now looking to raise money to make it happen! It will cost £130 per person (14 dancers & 2 adults = £2080) which covers train travel, food and accommodation. We are initially looking to raise £1000 but anything over this will be brilliant! SYDC will be very grateful for any amount you can spare.

They are performing at Nottingham Playhouse on the Friday night, on the same night and stage as the National Youth Dance Company. They are very excited to represent their region on a professional platform and hope you can help make this happen!
